Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why don't you have prices on your website?
There are simply too many variables to accurately estimate general fees. Writing projects aren't widgets; each one brings unique requirements, so each one must be quoted separately.
Q: So how do you price projects? Do you have an hourly rate?
Most of my fees are project-based. I estimate fees based on amount of time involved, including research and interview time, the number of drafts required, whether additional services are required, any likely expenses I may incur, and so on. Once I establish a project fee, that fee is set; we won't change it unless there is a significant change in scope.
Q: What's your process?
My basic process is to start with a free consultation; we can talk by phone or on Skype, or we can meet in person if you're local! (I love meeting people in person!) I'll ask you relevant questions about your project and find out about your needs, and then I'll put together a project estimate for you. Once we've agreed on scope, fee, and payment schedule, I'll invoice you for the initial payment, and then we can get started.
Q: How much do you require up front?
For most projects, I require 50% up front. For large, multi-stage projects, I will typically offer you a proposed payment schedule that will include some down payment, but will stagger the remaining fee along certain checkpoints on the project.
Q: If you ghostwrite my work, does your name go on it?
Not unless you want it to. You are considered the author. There are a variety of arrangements ghostwriters can make with authors. It's absolutely up to you, and I'm very flexible.
Q: Is ghostwriting legal?
Yes, of course! Consider it like speechwriting, but for books.
Q: Am I cheating if I hire a ghostwriter?
No, of course not! See previous answer.
